A Modality for Recursion

چکیده

We propose a modal logic that enables us to handle self-referential formulae, including ones with negative selfreferences, which on one hand, would introduce a logical contradiction, namely Russell’s paradox, in the conventional setting, while on the other hand, are necessary to capture a certain class of programs such as fixed point combinators and objects with so-called binary methods in object-oriented programming. Our logic provides a basis for axiomatic semantics of such a wider range of programs and a new framework for natural construction of recursive programs in the proofs-as-programs paradigm.

A Light Modality for Recursion

We investigate a modality for controlling the behaviour of recursive functional programs on infinite structures which is completely silent in the syntax. The latter means that programs do not contain “marks” showing the application of the introduction and elimination rules for the modality. This shifts the burden of controlling recursion from the programmer to the compiler. To do this, we intro...

Linear Types and Non-Size-Increasing Polynomial Time Computation

We propose a linear type system with recursion operators for inductive datatypes which ensures that all definable functions are polynomial time computable. The system improves upon previous such systems in that recursive definitions can be arbitrarily nested; in particular, no predicativity or modality restrictions are made. 2003 Elsevier Science (USA). Maintaining Multi-Modality through Mixture Tracking

In recent years particle filters have become a tremendously popular tool to perform tracking for non-linear and/or non-Gaussian models. This is due to their simplicity, generality and success over a wide range of challenging applications. Particle filters, and Monte Carlo methods in general, are however poor at consistently maintaining the multi-modality of the target distributions that may ari...

The learnability of Auditory Center-embedded Recursion

A growing body of research investigates how humans learn complex hierarchical structures with center-embedded recursion (Bahlmann, Schubotz, & Friderici, 2008; Poletiek & Lai, 2012). Increasing evidence indicates that properties of the learning input have an impact on learning this type of recursion. For instance, recent studies found that staged input, fewer unique exemplars and unequal repeti...

Calculation for Energy of (111) Surfaces of Palladium in Tight Binding Model

In this work calculation of energetics of transition metal surfaces is presented. The tight-binding model is employed in order to calculate the energetics. The tight-binding basis set is limited to d orbitals which are valid for elements at the end of transition metals series. In our analysis we concentrated on electronic effects at temperature T=0 K, this means that no entropic term will be pr...

An Effective Modality Conflict Model for Identifying Applicable Policies During Policy Evaluation

Policy evaluation is a process to determine whether a request submitted by a user satisfies the access control policies defined by an organization. Modality conflict is one of the main issues in policy evaluation. Existing modality conflict detection approaches do not consider complex condition attributes such as spatial and temporal constraints. An effective authorization propagation rule is n...
